Harmutty tea estate, established in 1878, stands as one of Assam's oldest and most revered tea gardens. Nestled in the North Lakhimpur district, the estate is situated along the banks of the fast-flowing Dikrong river and bordered by the lush forests of Arunachal Pradesh to the north. This picturesque location, with its fertile soil and abundant wildlife, creates an ideal environment for cultivating uniquely flavorsome tea leaves.

The estate's rich history is steeped in local legend, believed to be named after Queen Hiramati, the wife of King Arimatta, who once ruled all of lower Assam. The remnants of the queen's burial mound can still be found near the Maj (Middle) Bungalow, adding a touch of historical intrigue to the estate's charm. Founded by Major Gibb, Harmutty has thrived over the years, producing teas that are unmatched in both flavor and freshness.
