When his supply of China Congou ran out, Davies blended various Indian and Sri Lankan black teas, creating a robust and flavorful concoction that became an instant hit, especially with hearty English breakfasts. Dubbed "English Breakfast Tea," this blend quickly gained popularity, symbolizing the essence of a traditional English morning.

Another attribution links the blend to a Scottish tea master named Drysdale, who marketed it as Breakfast Tea. Queen Victoria, encountering this blend and being fond of all things Scottish, gave it her royal approval. With the Queen's endorsement, the blend acquired the name "English Breakfast tea," solidifying its place in history.
